The Competitiveness and Trade Expansion Program (COMPETE) was financed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and managed by Chemonics International. It was implemented by AGMARK in partnership with Uganda National Agrodealer Association (UNADA), with the intention of integrating smallholder surplus production in Kigezi and the Eastern Regions of Uganda into the Rwanda and Kenya cereals value chain respectively, through Agrodealers located in the two regions.

The US Ambassador to Rome Based agencies Ambassador Ettharin Cousin addressing farmers and Agrodealers in Kisumu County during a one day visit to Marenyo Community Cereal Bank, one of the agro dealers successfully procuring grain from smallholder farmers and supplying to WFP.

Goal

To connect farmers to markets through building and strengthening the capacity of Agrodealers to engage in output marketing activities through integration of input and output distribution systems

Approach

1. Trained Agrodealers on grain bulking and aggregation.
2. Supported Agrodealers by improving their storage facilities and providing them with basic grain bulking equipment’s (Weighing scales, moisture meters, sieves, stitching machines, tarpaulins, pallets and Gunny Bags) through a matching investment facility.
